Funded by shire Grants and the Parish Council.  This project we designed to complete the work on Grange road which began with the installation of a silver tree.  The tree had been purchased through the Sence Valley Forum with funds available specifically for a piece of artwork to stand at the gateway to the village.

The design of the mosaic was based on the story created for the tree and to complement the circles of mosaic incorporated it it.  The leaves of the tree were made from the outlines of school children’s hands and, to continue this theme, the lollipops were also created by children at the school.

The 20th October 2013 (Apple Day) saw a mosaic revealed, a tree planted and a bench dedicated and all blessed on Grange Road.  The community came, refreshments were served and apples given out all under a sprinkle of rain and amidst lots of laughter.

Councillors Lauren Otter, Will Jennings and Terri Eynon along with Llynda Baugh the Community Engagement Officer who made the mosaic.

An apple tree, donated by NWLDC, was planted .

Many varieties of apple were grown and given by Donington le Heath Manor House and everyone went home with a selection.

Granite was donated by Bardon Aggregates and the base was built by Mick Simm of Thringstone.

The tree was dressed with ribbons and the Baptist Minister, Peter Lanigan, did a lovely

service to bless all of the items.

At the end, we had some rain to water in the tree while everyone went into the marquee for cider, apple juice and apple pies.

The lollipops made by children at Hugglescote Community Primary School. The mosaic took over 60 hours to make in total and is the first of thee mosaic projects for the village.
